Draft Local Environment Plan (LEP)

Queanbeyan City Council (QCC) has prepared Draft Queanbeyan Local Environmental Plan (Googong) 2007 in respect to the land known as Googong, Queanbeyan for the establishment of a new town. According to the QCC website:

The plan aims to rezone certain land at Googong in accordance with the Queanbeyan City Residential and Economic Strategy 2031, as endorsed by the NSW Department of Planning and the Minister for Planning to achieve an economic, environmental and socially sustainable urban development.  The plan provides for the development of land within the Googong release area for conservation, open space, infrastructure, residential, commercial, and employment generating purposes in accordance with the land's capability.

The plan also aims to make local environmental planning provisions for land in Googong within the City of Queanbeyan in accordance with the relevant standard environmental planning instrument under section 33A of the Act (Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979).

Public comment sought on Googong LEP

QCC is inviting public comment on the Draft Googong LEP. Comments on the plan must be submitted by 4.30pm on 15 February 2008.

The plan is available for viewing:

• On the Queanbeyan City Council website; or at the

• Queanbeyan City Council Environmental Services display area on the first level of 257 Crawford Street Queanbeyan from 8.30am to 4.30pm weekdays with late opening until 6.30pm on Thursday nights;

• Queanbeyan City Council Customer Service display area, ground floor of 257 Crawford Street Queanbeyan from 8.30am to 4.30pm weekdays with late opening until 6.30pm on Thursday nights;

• Queanbeyan City Council Library at 257 Crawford Street during normal opening hours; and

• Queanbeyan City Council Strategic Planning Section on the first level of 12 Rutledge Street Queanbeyan 8.30am to 4.30pm weekdays.

Developer's Consultation Process

Canberra Investment Corporation (CIC), the developer of the Googong Township, will be holding a community information and feedback session on their initial concept plans for the Googong Township.

These plans include a draft master plan for the whole site and for the first neighbourhood.

Interested members of the community can call in any time between 5pm and 9pm on Wednesday 12 December to the Monaro Room of Queanbeyan Community Centre, 262 Crawford Street, Queanbeyan [see Google Map].

CIC have developed a website for the Googong Township proposal. Concepts and plans are available on the website.
