The Burra Smithy's Social Club is planning to build a permanent venue for its regular social gatherings in the Burra Park .

A Smithy's ShedThe shed will provide a welcoming place to meet friends and neighbours in a laid-back atmosphere, and unwind from the stresses of the week over a beer (BYO), a good yarn, plus a few jokes thrown in for good measure. It would also double as a place for the Scouts to hold get-togethers and learn the craft of fire-making.

In the past, the club's summer gatherings have been held under the stars. Outside the bush-fire season the members like to congregate around a friendly camp-fire, however the absence of a suitable venue has made it difficult for the club to meet recently.

The club is currently working on plans for the shed which it hopes Council will approve. If approved, the Shed could also provide a home for a collection of historic blacksmith's tools.

If you would like more details about gatherings, or would like to get involved in helping to build the shed, contact Doug Burgess on 6236 3323. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Burra Smithy's Social Club news – November 2008

The Smithy's Club made a presentation to the Burra Management Committee at its November meeting about our plans for the Smithy's Shed. We have received in-principle support from the Committee for the project. We will now progress to the next steps of seeking support from Palerang Council and drawing up more detailed plans for formal approval. We will also be investigating sources of funding for the next phase of the project.
